Fiber Optic Sensor - Fiber optic sensors are widely used in industrial automation, since they are ideal for use under harsh conditions. Even in confined areas these flexible fibres can be positioned very precise.
A fiber optical sensor consists of a remote sensor or amplifier connected with a flexible optic fiber. The sensor emits and receives light and converts the light energy into an electrical signal.
This electrical signal be it digital 'zero' or 'one', be it analogue for example '4 to 20 mili-amps' is being used to automate production processes.
Fiber sensor can be divided in two major categories: sensors for use with glass fiber, and sensors for use with plastic fiber. Selecting which type you will use depends on the function of the sensor,
and on the other hand on the application itself.
