Home Automation – When I think of automating my house, I think of improving my life, by automating repetitive tasks in my home. But there is a lot more then meets the eye, at the first instance, a nice overview can be found at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_automation. It also includes an overview on the different technologies, standards and bridges that are being used in domotics.

One of the home automating industry open and international standards is X10. This standard is used in communication between home appliances. An overview on X10 can be found on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X10_(industry_standard). It was the first general purpose home automating technology designed by Pico Electronics in 1975.

Probably the most well known on-line shop for home automating products is Smarthome.com. Since 1992 SmartHome has grown into on of the worlds biggest home automatin retailers, they can be found here: www.smarthome.com . Joe Dada, founder of Smarthome, was an early enthusiast of home automating products.

That SmartHome has become a world leader in domotics, is also thanx to it's support of it's customers. The place for friendly user support from like minded people is the SmartHome Forum:http://www.smarthome.com/forum/ . With more then 2500 active members one of the most relevant home automating forums on the internet.

Our next stop is the Home Technology from Cerstron: http://www.crestron.com/solutions/control/home_theater_and_whole_house_home_automation/ . They offer an award winning integrated solution. Total control of your home is always at your fingertips, be it via a remote control or be it via a human machine interface touch screen.

The next company is Control4 founded in 2003. Making home-automation available for the masses was one of the main goals. Automating your needs to be made possible without the need to rebuild it almost completely. More information can be found here: http://www.control4.com/ .

Then there is HAInc. , founded in 1985, is the world leading manufacturer of home controls.Their systems are available for every budget and style. Their systems can be installed in new and in existing homes. On the website you find more info: http://www.homeauto.com/main.asp .

On Home-Automation.org you will find a complete guide to automating your home. It is the most complete directory on the subject. It can be found here: http://home-automation.org/ .

And finally an other HA Index can be found at: http://www.homeautomationindex.com/ . It was created and is maintained by Dan Hoehnen. Check it out!
