Home Thermostat Automation

Is there any way someone could automate the home thermostat to change the temperature when someone is home, versus when somebody is away. The program thermostats are great, but how often are you at home at the same time. Is there any way of incorporating a motion sensor, and a timer so you can wake up with a warm house, and come home and have a warm house without forever having to adjust the thermostat to get the right mix?
