Industrial – In this overview on the industrial-sector I want to give you, I am starting with the fact that economic growth, or the fact that we take for granted, that our economy needs to grow, is realised in part by the industry. Without automated factories, automated production processes, we wouldn't be able to sustain this growth. On the other hand our goal should be to re-style the world economy in a way that our planet will able to support all the people living on it in the long run. We should try to create a cycle of re-use of our resources.

The way we have known an industrial-development like in and after the industrial-revolution, with pollution of our environment should be avoided at all cost. This to spare future generations from the burdens this creates. Avoiding pollution of our environment will make the world a better place to live in.

Our industrial-society, our society that has undergone and still is undergoing further industrialisation, will need to deal with sustainable growth more and more. The cradle to cradle principal, this is that what you create needs to be degradable after use, without contaminating the environment, needs to be what we focus on. This will give our children and our children's children the ability to create a higher developed society for the benefit of every person living in it.

Industrial-engineering, with a focus on sustainability, plays a key-role in this story. Therefore future engineers need to receive the proper training on sustainability. These women and men engineers hold the key to the future of our planet and society.
