Ladder Logic – The most commonly used language to program PLC's.

Ladder Logic – Invented to describe the logic made from relays, "ladder" is now one of the most popular language's to program Program Logic Circuits or Program Logic Controllers, in other words PLC's. When you look at such a program it resembles a ladder, that's why people have been calling it ladder lo-gic ever since.

A PLC program in "ladder" is also called a ladder diagram, which was easy for engineers and technicians to understand since it looks like a relay circuit. Making sure they could understand and use it without much additional training. Where sequential control of a production process or manufacturing application is needed, ladder diagram is being used.

One company that offers a free copy of PLC relay ladder diagram programming software is www.entertron.com. On their site you can download a copy to teach yourself how to program Program Logic Controllers in ladder diagram.
