SSI Encoder – They are commonly used in industrial motion control applications. The SSI or Synchronous Serial Interface is an interface for absolute single and multi-turn encoders. When position control gets critical with for example sensors with 4 to 20mA output, SSI sensors come in the picture. Using SSI is less expensive then for example the Profibus-DP interface. Motion control using SSI is also very reliable since every position can have it's own unique code. Different manufacturers have used the SSI Interface in different encoder types to suite particular applications. SSI is an industrial automation industry standard.
