Wireless CANbus - Make Your Canbus Network Wireless
Wireless Canbus – If we speak a about wireless Canbus in industrial automation a lot of different problems and solutions come to our minds. Depending on the requirements of each application a customized solution can be developed, to completely satisfy the customers need. On the market today we see the following solutions:
*The need to easily exchange data between different CAN networks via Bluetooth. So for the wireless transmission we use Bluetooth, and for the data exchange we use the serial port. These modules are well-suited for mobile and stationary applications. Customer specific models can be build. Configuration is possible via Bluetooth. *An other solution is the wireless transmission of CAN data between CAN and/or WLAN/LANnetworks. The wireless data transfer is done via wireless-LAN. This solution enables high data trough put between various CAN networks and is often used for ranges up to 100 meters. The wireless connection between two or more WLAN units, enables the connection of two or more CAN networks that would be otherwise difficult to achieve.
*The next solution involves transmitting CAN data to every location using GSM/GPRS. So you will be able to worldwide exchange data via GSM/GPRS. This solution gives you the possibility of comfortable fleet management. You will also be able to send CAN data via sms, e-mail or fax.
*An other version of the previous solution is the ability to transmit CAN data to every location using GSM/GPRS, plus using GPS to detect positions. So in addition to the worldwide exchange of CAN data via GSM/GPRS, these transmitters carry an integrated GPS module for positioning. Remote maintenance and diagnostics can be carried out in an inexpensive way via the internet.
*The following solution enables us to read data from an RFID tag and exchange the data trough an
CAN network. The range for reading the tag is 50 millimetres / 90 millimetres depending on the kind of tag you use. Also here customized version can be developed.
*For CAN data transfer up to 2 meters an infrared interface is being used. This is an inexpensive solution for short distances. It is also suitable for use in rugged industrial environments.
*The last solution I want to mention here is CAN data transmission via UHF. This enables you with easy sending of alert and status messages. Deployment is possible in master/slave or multimaster networks. So short range data transfer is possible indoors over 50 meters and outdoors over 150 meters. The input voltage range from 9 Volts to 36 Volts makes it possible to implement this solution in mobile an stationary applications.
